This is a traditional american luxury sedan. It's roomy and comfortable. It's smooth and stable. And it's luxurious.  people who buy town cars like them; the town car is the highest-rated american car in the mid-luxury segment, according to a j. Some 75 percent of limousine and livery fleets are made up of this large american luxury sedan. Yet individuals still account for more than 65 percent of all town car sales.  the town car was extensively re-engineered for the 2003 model year with a new frame, a new rack-and-pinion steering system, a new brake system, and new front and rear suspensions. This resulted in improved handling. Revised front and rear styling distinguished the changes, but the styling revisions were subtle.  changes have been minimal since then. Sharing the standard (117. 7-inch) wheelbase are the signature 42,055), signature limited 44,920), and designer series 46,435). Options are somewhat limited at this level.  signature limited adds soundmark audiophile dual-media sound system; leather-wrapped tilt steering wheel with wood inserts and audio, speed and climate controls; full power trunk with key fob open and close; memory driver's seat, pedals and mirrors; heated front seats; and its own 17-inch, 10-spoke machined aluminum wheels, also, a wider range of options become available.  designer adds chrome trim on the b-pillar, door handles, and its unique18-spoke wheels. A heavy-duty front stabilizer bar helps compensate for its six-inch longer wheelbase.  major options include navigation 2,995-3,600), hid headlamps 495), chromed wheels 895), power glass sunroof 1,595), and a six-cd changer 605), which is available at no cost with the sunroof and/or on signature l. Signature gets new 12-spoke rims, while signature limited and long-wheelbase signature l get a 10-spoke design. The designer series comes with chrome-plated 18-spoke wheels.  aside from that, however, little has changed since lincoln last re-styled the town car for 2003. The division tried to retire the stand-up ornament earlier in the decade, but customers complained that they used it as a lane marker on the road and, to better locate the front of the car's long hood when parking.  the trunk lid opening is wide and low to make loading and unloading easier. A covered and removable storage tray fills the deepest part of the trunk well. The panel is elegant, even fun to look at. There's plenty of burl walnut veneer all around the interior, plus brushed satin metal panels, and a winged analog clock at the top center of the dash.  the up-level wood-and-leather steering wheel features buttons for cruise, audio, and climate controls. The instruments feature large, easy-to-read numbers. Storage space abounds: a fold-down front armrest with a double-hinged top can be opened to either the driver's or passenger's side. Cupholders and a storage tray come out from the front edge of the center front seat. Storage pouches are sewn into the front cushion of the front seats. There are also hinged storage bins in the front doors, a large glove box. Atlas-sized pockets in the front seatbacks, and a fold-down rear armrest with storage and cupholders.  the interior is very quiet, with thick insulation in the floor, firewall and pillars. This allows maximum fidelity from the 145-watt alpine sound system, which includes am, fm, cassette and single cd play (a trunk-mounted 6-disc changer is optional on all models except signature). Its rear-seat armrest contains controls for the rear climate control and the audio system, two additional 12-volt power points, an ashtray and lighter in each door, and a separate control that can adjust the fore/aft position of the right front seat. 2006 lincoln mark lt review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Luxurious f-150. introductionfirst, there was the 2002 lincoln blackwood. Now, there's the 2006 lincoln mark lt. Neither was nor is true.  that earlier, faux hauler was an uneasy amalgam of a couple of ford f-series pickups and the lincoln navigator, which itself was a direct knock-off of the ford expedition. This true hauler, however, is in fact a rhinoplasticized and slightly beefier version of nothing less, or more, than the ford f-150 crew cab pickup. That bodes both good and bad for 10,000 people a year lincoln hopes will buy the second truck ever to wear the lincoln brand. The latest in engine technology delivers best-in-class fuel economy. An audio/video system is available to entertain rear-seat passengers, and satellite radio is available.  more good news: pricing. That's significantly less than the cadillac ext, its most logical competitor, which starts at more than $54,000.  the bad news is that even with all the trimmings, the two-tone leather-wrapped steering wheel, the overstuffed seats, the automatic climate control, the play-anything stereo and so on, the mark lt cannot overcome the reality that it started life as a pickup. And its ride and handling are the ultimate betrayers of this truth.  this leads us to offer the following recommendation: do not buy the mark lt for its stellar performance numbers. Don't buy it for its plush, luxo ride. The engine is a 300-horsepower, 5. 4-liter v8. There's wood applique on the dash and the inside door handles. The front seats are heated, leather-surfaced and have power adjustments for all but lumbar and seatback recline, which are manual. Two drivers get memory privileges for the driver's seat and outside mirror settings. In the back is a 60/40-split, flip-up seat upholstered in leather look-alike with a fold-down center armrest. Leather-covered, tilt steering wheel is standard, too, as are central locking with remote key fob, on-board computer and ford's power-rail, overhead console hardware. The stereo provides am, fm and mp3 output, a six-disc in-dash cd changer, speed-compensated volume and seven, acoustically positioned speakers augmented by a subwoofer with separate amplifier. Also standard are a universal programmable remote garage opener, carpeted floor mats and polished-metal door scuff plates. Fog lamps are standard. These are: a rear seat, dvd-based entertainment system with six months of pre-paid sirius satellite radio 1,295), a stand-alone sirius satellite radio package with six months pre-paid service 195), power adjustable pedals 120), a power moonroof 995), and a power sliding rear window 250). Also offered are running boards 250), chrome box rails 250), eight-spoke chromed aluminum wheels 695), a bed extender 195), a limited slip rear differential 300) and a class iv trailer tow package 350).  safety features comprise two, dual-stage front seat airbags; front seatbelt-use reminder; three-point seatbelts at all occupant positions; adjustable head restraints at all outboard seating positions; and rear seat child safety seat anchors (latch). Anti-lock brakes with electronic brake-force distribution are standard. Optional is a reverse parking sensor system 245). walkaroundlincoln's stylists did a better than decent job of making a square peg fit in a round hole in the design of the mark lt's front end. Only the most observant eye notices that what looks like a distinctive lincoln face, like that of a navigator or of a blackwood, is the trademark air vent-like lincoln grille carefully shaved to slide into the same opening as a ford f-150 grille. Otherwise, everything that makes up what the mark lt first presents to the world is, yes, out of the same parts bins as feed the f-150 assembly line. Still, it's not an unflattering face.  distinctive marks on the mark lt's side panels are few, but noteworthy. Front fender side panels sport the lincoln badge and a mark lt logo. The mirrors wear chrome caps over a matte black base, which matches the mounting plate filling the forward lower corners of the front door windows. Door handles are chrome full-rounds set in body-color bezels. Chrome cladding visually links the front and rear bumpers.  large, mostly rectangular taillight and reflector lenses bridge the seam between the fenders and tailgate. A chrome handle in a body-color surround above an oversize lincoln badge opens the lockable tailgate, which also wears mark lt identification. The license plate occupies a recess in the chrome rear bumper above an inset step pad over the optional hitch receiver plate. A single chrome exhaust tip peeks out under the side body panel aft of the right rear tire.  climbing into the mark lt is a major step up even with the assist of the optional running boards. And about those running boards, they weren't much help. To be truly functional, they need to protrude farther from the body. The powered running boards on the navigator, which extend when the door is opened and retract when it's closed, were a better idea. interiorsave for the lincoln logo and name sprinkled liberally around the cabin and a trendy color scheme of cool shades of tan or gray accented with tasteful wood and chrome trimmings, there's nothing to distinguish the mark lt's interior from a ford f-150 crew cab.  seats front and rear are virtually bolster free and borderline over-stuffed, much like what might be found in the den of an upscale house or in an airline first-class cabin. An oversize center console with a deep storage bin separates the two front seats, which are adjustable along multiple planes. The rear seat, which is rather upright and fixed, can sit three, but with a fold-down center armrest, it's more inviting for two.  against the most sensible competition, the cadillac escalade ext, there's little difference in dimensions. Headroom front and rear varies by less than an inch, likewise legroom, which is ample. Hip room is more problematical, as the way it's measured can mislead. The mark lt's front seat width is listed at almost 64 inches, but this is side to side between the inside door trim and without accounting for the center console, which is far from slender. The ext's front-seat hip room is listed at 62 inches, but this also includes a substantial center console. Best to try, then decide. We're more comfortable assessing the rear seat. The mark lt's back seats promise 63. 1 inches of hip room, the ext's 62 inches. In that the design and style of the seats are similar, essentially benches with split, fold-down backs, the mark lt's extra inch-plus directly translates into more hip room. The ext comes out ahead on one major interior measure: front-seat side impact airbags are standard, which are not available on the mark lt.  the way the lincoln mark lt's interior interfaces with occupants is virtually all positive, even more so when compared with the cadillac ext's chunky, cheap-feeling, outdated, over-done, ad hoc hodgepodge of panels and switches. In contrast, the mark lt's dash is smooth and sleek, with sharply defined, vertical panels and well-spaced, supremely functio. Completely re-engineered for 2002, mountaineer boasts a new frame, a new independent rear suspension, a new front suspension, new steering, new seating formats, and a raft of new standard and optional features.  mechanically, the mountaineer shares its structure and most of its major components with the ford explorer. It's the mountaineer's adventurous, architectural look that sets it apart. While the explorer almost seems designed to blend into the suburban wallpaper, the mountaineer demands more attention. The premier package now includes a power moonroof and safety canopy airbags. Each is available with a 4. 0-liter v6 or a 4. 6-liter v8 800).  all mountaineers come with a wide-ratio five-speed automatic transmission. All have seating for seven, using a third seat that folds completely flat to make room at the rear for large cargo.  all mountaineers are built to a relatively high specification, with power windows, mirrors and locks, anti-lock brakes with electronic brake force distribution, and a class ii receiver hitch for towing. All have the securilock passive anti-theft system and remote keyless entry, and approach lamps on the bottoms of the side mirrors that illuminate the sides of the vehicle when the key fob button is pressed. Power adjustable pedals are now standard as well. A standard battery saver turns off the dome light and approach lamps after five minutes. P245/70 tires are mounted on 16-inch machined aluminum wheels.  the luxury preferred equipment package 2670) adds leather upholstery, heated front seats, power for the passenger seat, memory for the driver's seat and pedals a message center, dual automatic temperature control, audiophile stereo with a six-cd changer, steering-wheel mounted climate and audio controls, electrochromic heated mirrors, painted running boards and 245/65r17 all-terrain tires.  the premier package 4570) includes all that, plus a monochromatic exterior with satin aluminum trim, safety canopy air bags, a reverse-sensing system and a power moonroof. The moonroof is available as a stand-alone option 800).  the rear seat entertainment system 1100) is a new option for 2003 that includes an overhead dvd player and a pull-down seven-inch color screen. The system comes with two wireless headphones, remote control and a universal jack.  . walkaroundmercury mountaineer's expressive design is refreshing in a sea of comparatively faceless suvs. The exterior graphics are all straightforward, businesslike block letters. That the mountaineer is attractive is a good thing because it is expected to represent the design direction mercury is taking with its future products.  we especially liked the big over-or-under door handles than can be operated easily with gloved hands. Optional running boards are convenient for passengers of small stature trying to enter and exit gracefully.  . interiormountaineer uses trendy matte-aluminum trim on the door panels, steering wheel, instrument panel and dashboard and it looks terrific. The aluminum trim extends to the main gauges, the tachometer and speedometer, which are done in black-on-white graphics that turn orange-and-white when the lights are on. It takes only a couple of rides to be able to find everything quickly and easily. Optional seat heaters warm the seats quickly, but the buttons are mounted on the side of the seat and can be difficult to find, as they are grouped with the seatback recliner handle, the power seat switch for fore/aft and the lumbar pump switch.  third-row seats are a bit cramped for 6-foot, 4-inch testers, but the second row is accommodating.  the second and third row seats are very easy to stow. Folding them away reveals a huge 81 cubic-foot cargo bay. The seats are easy to restore to their upright and locked positions.  . driving impressionthe 2003 mercury mountaineer hovers near the top of the class of mid-size suvs. It works well with the five-speed automatic transmission to move this 4500-pound machine effortlessly over flat territory. Throttle response lacks some verve in hilly terrain. The 4. 0-liter v6 with overhead cams and aluminum heads was revised last year with a new intake system for increased performance and aluminum main bearings for improved durability. It is rated at 210 horsepower and 254 pounds-feet of torque at 3700 rpm.  a sophisticated all-wheel-drive system is available with either engine and differentiates the mountaineer with the ford explorer. All-wheel drive contributes to the mountaineer's handling characteristics because it sends torque to the front and rear tires during normal operation. The mountaineer's system biases torque 35 percent to the front and 65 percent to the rear to minimize understeer. (understeer is when the front tires slip before the rear tires, causing the vehicle to push toward the outside of a turn.) it relies on an open differential with a viscous coupling. A clutch pack distributes power between the front and rear wheels based on traction needs. There are no switches or levers the driver needs to operate. There's no low range for serious off-road driving, but the mountaineer's system easily handles snow, rain, mud, wet leaves, ice, and gravel.  mountaineer's rigid frame lets its fully independent suspension soak up bumps, potholes and tar strips. As a bonus, the independent rear suspension makes room for a bigger, flatter load floor and the third seat.  body roll, or lean, is controlled well in fast corners. It's very stable and inspires confidence. Mountaineer's rack-and-pinion steering minimizes wandering on the highway.  . summarymercury mountaineer combines convenience and versatility with luxurious accommodations. It's comfortable on long trips. Its features and ergonomics make living with it a very pleasant experience. Its available all-wheel-drive system makes it a confident vehicle in nasty weather. For 18 years the ford f-150 has been the best selling pickup in the u. S., and for the past 13 years running it has also been the best selling vehicle in the u. Not the taurus, not the accord. The front end bears little resemblance to previous noses, although the oval ford logo immediately identifies the truck. The grille opening is changed, the headlights have a new shape, and the lower bumper has been redesigned. Note here that the f-150 comes in so many permutations that what is said about a design specific on one may have little to do with another. The tail features new-look taillights that are inset and wrap around.  overall, the truck has surprisingly rounded lines. Ford says that vehicle ruggedness traditionally had been characterized by angular forms. But all those sharp edges played havoc with aerodynamics, which meant lower fuel economy and more wind noise. So ford designers went for a look that was more aero, but still conveyed ruggedness. And why they buy it. Ford knows f-150 owners very well indeed, and has broken them down into major groups.  know anybody who fits one of these categories? He buys a regular cab flareside xl and represents one sale in 10. Also one in 10 sales. Next is established and stable with kids in school and wife back to work. He buys a higher-series xlt, maybe a supercab. Three of 10 sales, so an important customer. When this guy ages, he enters free-spirited senior land, and he goes for the top of the line xlt or lariat and maybe supercab. He's good for another three in 10 sales. When ford was doing its marketing homework in preparation for the new truck, time and time again the researchers heard owners of extended cab trucks plead for more room behind the seats, and easier access. Which is precisely what they'll get in the new truck with the new passenger-side third door option.  like all pickups, the new f-150 is available in a variety of shapes and sizes. There is a short and long wheelbase styleside regular cab, a short and a long styleside supercab, a short flareside regular cab and short flareside supercab. The flaresides have aerodynamic lower moldings, a side step and other cosmetic features.  the standard engine for the new truck is a new 4. 2-liter v6 that produces a hefty 205 hp at 4400 rpm, which is a considerable advantage over the competing standard engines. Chevrolet's c/k has 180 hp, the dodge ram has 170 hp.  the ford v6 also produces 255 lb.-ft. Of torque, with 92 percent of that available at 1500 rpm. That means low-end acceleration and more trailer-towing capacity. A 4. 6-liter with 210 hp is available now, with a more powerful 5. 4-liter v8 due this fall. The smaller v8's advantage over the standard six is more torque: 290 lb.-ft. Vs. 255.  all engines come with a 5-speed manual standard, with a 4-speed electronically-controlled automatic optional. All models are available with 4-wheel drive.  after decades of twin i-beam, the f-150 finally has a new front suspension, which ford describes as upper short and long arm (sla). On 4x2 trucks, the sla suspension uses coil springs that react against a forged upper arm and a cast spindle, with control arms bolted to the frame. At the rear is a solid axle with a leaf spring on top of the axle.  the 4x4 truck us. interiorthe interior of the f-150 is far more car-like than before, surprisingly so, in light of the truck's rugged (ford would never say macho) image. The basic instrument cluster contains gauges for the important functions, but no tachometer. The usual controls are to the right in a soft-cornered rectangle. The radio has a real on/off knob, but tunes with a rocker switch.  organic shapes abound-door handle, glove box handle, ashtray door, vents. The standard seat is a 3-person bench with a 40/60 split bench standard on some models. There is increased storage area behind the seat and more clearance for the optional reclining seats.  the supercab has more rear-seat leg room than the previous f-150. A split bench rear seat is available. The lower cushion of the rear seat can be folded into a flat floor.  nice touches include extra-large cupholders, a second power point on the instrument panel for laptop computers and the like, an optional driver's side secondary visor shade, a glove box handle oriented toward the driver, adjustable d-rings for greater ease of shoulder belt adjustment, two large coat hooks and a passenger grab handle.  f-150 models are available in standard, xl, xlt and lariat interiors. Never has a full-size pickup been so refined. Ford has taken the truck out and given it a car-like feel in this respect, just as the designers did with the interior.  the ride is smooth and motion free. In its place, a compliant ride that soaks up road irregularities. For anyone with a lot of truck time, it's almost spooky the way it goes down the road. It's also quiet in there. The new rounded shape did its job in that department--no wind noise.  typically, a pickup's box and frame are designed separately, then bolted together. This time around, the two systems were designed to work together. The result is an absence of squeaks and rattles, even on rough terrain. The truck has a solid feel that has nothing to do with ruggedness. This one is built to endure.  both engines are strong, with the increased torque of the v8 obvious in a back-to-back comparison. But without that comparison, no one would likely sell the v6 short. Both are smooth, with the v8 a bit quieter.  the most remarkable thing about these engines is how much power, particularly torque, ford has been able to extract from relatively small displacements. Both engines are based on ford's highly successful 4. 6-liter modular v8, used in several passenger cars. For truck use, the 4. 6 induction system was retuned for stronger low-end performance. Overhead cam engines aren't part of american truck tradition, but we don't think anyone will have any trouble adapting to this one. summaryit's obvious the f-150 has been a good truck. But ford decided keeping its top spot meant making a good thing better, and showed confidence in also making it quite a bit different in the process. There may seem to be a bit of bet-hedging here, since ford will keep the 1996 model on sale through most of the year, but that's only because of the changeover required at two more plants.  will ford's new f-150 encounter resistance? Only time will tell. The north american truck of the year jury gave the f-150 top honors this year, and we think they called it right. It's a big, comfortable sedan that feels quick on its feet; it's hard to tell just by looking at it, but the avalon handles well and delivers a satisfying ride. This engine produces 210 horsepower with 220 pounds-feet of torque.  xl models come fully equipped with side air bags, dual-zone air conditioning, power windows, door locks and mirrors, and a 120-watt am/fm stereo with cassette and cd players. Xls models add automatic climate control, a driver information display (compass, trip computer, outside temperature and calendar functions), fog lights, aluminum alloy wheels, remote keyless entry, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel. walkaroundthe avalon isn't much to look at. Its best features are electronic and mechanical. That isn't to say it's unattractive, it's just not eye-catching. It looks like a toyota sedan. The wing-shaped halogen headlights and wide grille with vertical rails provide a slightly toothy smiley-face look. The avalon is roomy inside and provides plenty of shoulder room. However, high windowsills make the chamber feel deep. Carrying of long, narrow objects is made easier as the rear center seat has a pass-through that opens up to the trunk.  the interior sports ample doses of burled walnut, good, simple switchgear, and solid-feeling control stalks. There's even a leather boot on the column-shift lever, a nice touch. Also included are soothing electro-chromatic mirrors that self-adjust to reduce glare, and an easy to adjust dual climate-control system providing independent climates for driver and passenger.  the data system is … well, aren't they all mostly just toys? The avalon's 'multi-information display' is in a big rectangular window in the center of the instrument panel. The feel of the leather, the doses of walnut, the big recessed instrument panel, and especially the inside shape of the c-pillars, all make the avalon interior reminiscent of a seville. But the car's big trick is that little attention is required, it works so well. Toyota couldn't have asked for better work from the guys in nvh (noise, vibration, harshness). All we could hear on a rainy day was a creaking in the windshield wipers, like an old screen door opening and closing, opening and closing.  the ride is flawless. Handling via rack-and-pinion steering is tight, even direct. While some still call such feeling 'no character,' we think 'purity' is a better call. Oh, the chassis can be felt lightly rising and falling over undulations, but that's not a flaw, it's a soft balance appropriate to the car. We could see the water, we could hear it, but we couldn't feel it. We hit a shallow double pothole in the river. We heard a light thump, but scarcely felt it. We drove over a washboard-unpaved road. We felt it, but not much.  then we got a little daring in the wet, blasting through a two-lane sweeper heavy on the throttle at 65 mph. Something faster, smarter and more sensitive than us was doing all the tricky work.  we mashed the brake pedal as hard and fast as we could. Excellent anti-lock brakes said, 'no problem. Because we were full on the pedal, brake assist wasn't triggered. We never felt them.  we saved the most exotic for last: vehicle skid control. It's a lexus hand-me-down, remaining innovative as it moves along from $50,000 cars to $30,000 ones. It's only available on the xls, but it's a lot of option for $850. No, it's a steal for $850. Using throttle or brake intervention, vsc makes the appropriate adjustment in grip. We found a sharp curve with good visibility and no ditch. It claims that a league-leading 51 percent of them buy another avalon, plus another 26 percent move up to lexus, or at least buy another toyota. So maybe no attention-grabbing fanfare is needed. They'll discover the car, if they haven't already.  this is a great sedan, though it seems like the dignified styling could use a bit of swoop or flash to match the performance. We'd love to see a jet-black avalon with a lowered nose and vintage red pearl flames streaming from that toothy grin. A hard-working truck with civilized manners. introductionwhen the going gets tough, the tough buy a super duty.  this is no truck for dilettantes or poseurs. Ford's super duty pickups look like serious big rigs, and they are. They are heavy-hauling, heavy-towing machines. And they outsell their dodge and chevrolet analogs combined.  these are specialized trucks as well, trucks with long lists of options to do special jobs. Any one of them can pull everything from a horse trailer to an airstream camper. They are all the truck most consumers will ever need. Ford also builds even bigger f-450, 550, 650, and 750 commercial-grade trucks.  f-250 and f-350 are available in regular-cab, extended-cab (supercab) and crew cab configurations. New for 2002 is a six-speed manual transmission, standard with the 5. 4-liter and 6. 8-liter engines.  also new for 2002 is long list of interior upgrades, to make these trucks more comfortable and user-friendly than before. lineupmost domestic-branded pickups are offered in more configurations than any normal human can count.  all ford f-250 models come with single rear wheels. F-350 models are available with single rear wheels (srw) or dual rear wheels (drw). The latter, often called 'duallies,' are good for towing as they offer higher tongue-weight ratings.  ford super duty f-250 competes with the other heavyweights from detroit: dodge ram 2500, chevrolet silverado 2500 and gmc sierra 2500. F-350 dual rear wheel models compete with the 3500-series models from gm and dodge.  many trucks these days are used for work and personal duty. Three trim levels are offered: standard xl, mid-level xlt, and luxurious lariat.  wheelbase lengths include 137 inches (regular cab), 142 inches (supercab short-bed), 158 inches (supercab long-bed), 156 inches (crew cab short-bed) and 172 inches (crew cab long-bed). walkaroundsome folks have compared the exterior styling of the f-250 to the big-rig look of the dodge ram. Ford's super duty trucks used to share their cabs with the f-150 light-duty models, but the current line of super duty pickups broke from that tradition. While the f-150s have rounded edges, the super duty trucks look bluff-nosed and serious. Their menacing, square-jawed front ends, brawny raised hoods and aggressive headlamps are a big tip-off that there are significant differences between a garden-variety f-150 and a super duty. We think they are the best-looking heavy duty pickups available.  but there's more here to separate the super duty trucks than just looks. It also makes it easier to climb in, a welcome feature when juggling tools, briefcases, or even toddlers. The interior features a fold-down armrest, a floor console that can accommodate a laptop, and a removable hanging bin for storage that can attach to the dash. Controls are big, easy to reach and manipulate. The only exception is the instrument panel dimmer, which is a bit hard to reach. Two large cupholders are provided. The standard cigar lighter is augmented with a second auxiliary power outlet.  a new instrument cluster for 2002 includes a transmission temperature gauge when an automatic transmission is ordered.  also for 2002, ford has added even more car-like luxury features, including six-way power for the passenger's seat on lariat crew cab models. In fact, xlt and lariat now feature entirely new seats with increased bolster height and shoulder width. An improved lumbar support provides a greater range of adjustment. Lariat now features a sunglasses bin and garage-door opener in its overhead console. Map pockets with integrated cup holders are now standard on supercab rear doors, and driver's-side grab handles are standard on all trim levels. Rear-passenger grab handles are now found in all crew cabs.  passenger-side airbags offer a deactivation switch on regular cab and supercab models. Adjustable seatbelt anchors increase safety and comfort. driving impressionthe 5. 4-liter v8 is rated 260 horsepower and 350 foot-pounds of torque. The 6. 8-liter v10 is rated 310 horsepower and 425 foot-pounds of torque. Both engines employ overhead cams for valve control. Steering is precise. Handling by big truck standards is crisp. Body roll is noticeably limited in the corners. And the ride quality is reasonably good, thanks to a compliant suspension. The rear seat cushion folds up and forward and the seatback folds down to create a flat, steel loading surface, a perfect place to put tools and other heavy items that need to stay secure and out of the elements. They hinge on the rear pillars of the cab and swing out a full 90 degrees from the doorsill. This design eases the loading of gear and passengers and contributes to occupant safety with the combination of vertical beams and a cross brace where the front and rear doors meet. summaryford's super duty trucks are enormously popular among people who tow horses, boats, race cars, and collectibles. The 2009 honda civic sedan presents a bolder face to the world, thanks mainly to a new front bumper cover. Where the previous bumper looked solid and heavy, with a single, subtle horizontal opening at the center, the new design incorporates a taller, more trapezoidal center opening with secondary scoop-like openings on either side. A grid-like insert in the center opening contrasts with a kind of cyclone-fence theme in the side scoops. These changes break up some of the visual mass of the bumper. Gone is the delicate, two-tiered upper grille insert, leaving just the honda logo centered in a oval-themed black mesh. The trapezoidal opening below has been flipped, so it's now wider at the top than the bottom, and the scoops to either side are drawn out wider and more horizontal, divided midway by a horizontal strut.  save for a lower body character line, drawn slightly higher on the coupe than on the sedan, the sides of the civic are more slab than sensuous. Understated fender blisters, more pronounced on the coupe, break up the otherwise featureless expanse. What excitement there is in the side view is in the sleekness of what honda calls a monoform design. A central expression of this is the windshield, the leading edge of which reaches into the hood all the way to the middle of the front wheel wells, pushing the cab-forward design concept to a new extreme. On the coupe, the windshield is raked at a radical 21. 9 degrees; the sedan's at a barely more upright 23. 9 degrees.  the sail panel (the body panel aft of the rear side window) is unique to each model. The coupe's forms an acute angle with the horizontal deck surface, emphasizing the two-door body style; while the sedan's curves down over the rear door's trailing edge, pulling the eye through the higher roofline. The coupe's be-spoilered, rounded rear profile suggests swiftness. The sedan's somewhat abbreviated trunk lid and high, chunky tail end add perceived mass to a tightly proportioned, smallish sedan.  likewise, the rear view of each body style differs markedly. The coupe's sloping trunk lid settles into a deep cut in the rear bumper, with the license plate sheltered in an equally deep recess. The sedan's trunk lid drops in an almost vertical, unrelieved sheer from a relatively high crest across the top.  on the 2009 si sedan, the grille bar is black instead of chrome. On both coupes and sedans an si badge tucks into the grille's lower left side, and oval fog lights are set into the bumper's outboard openings. An i-vtec label appears just forward of the rear wheel well; on the si sedan it's placed low on the rear door. An interestingly shaped rear spoiler wraps over the outboard edges of the sedan's trunk lid; on the coupe, the spoiler is free-standing. Both sedan and coupe roll on their own unique alloy wheels. The hybrid, in contrast, is understated, with just a small hybrid badge under the right rear taillight. The dx edges more toward spartan inside, while the ex heads toward lush. Fit and finish meet honda standards. Plastic trim elements look high-grade, although the multi-piece dash invites concern about high-mileage squeaks and buzzes.  many of the fabrics in the civic's.
